Growing food in your garden
The first thing that you need to decide when planting your vegetable garden is what types of vegetables you want to have. The next thing is to find the right place to have your garden, along with how large you want, or can have, your garden. It is entirely possible to grown your vegetables in a small roof garden or balcony as long as you plan properly, and make provision for watering and protection from severe weather, wind and blazing sun.
Once all of these things have been figured out and you have a rough idea of what you want in your vegetable garden, and how big you want your garden to be, you can then move on to where to get your vegetable seed or plant stock from.
Here, you might have to make a decision as to whether you want your vegetable garden to be planted from completely organic seed, vegetable plugs or plant stock, or whether, if you have difficulty in obtaining these, you want to resort to using plant stock from a nursery which is not organic, but then grow on utilizing organic methods.
Its best to make a plan for a year ahead, so right now, before the weather is right for planting out, is the best time to start. Will you be using a greenhouse or cold frame? Or will you be planting directly into the ground outside or in tubs and troughs? The answer to this helps decide when to start and what varieties of vegetables to begin with.
You will need to do a bit of reading and planning, but then you will be able to start with confidence and later enjoy eating all the lovely fresh food you have grown yourself.
